Blue Marble 4Life Project

As a Virtual Assistant with TKM Virtual Services, I have been given a new, exciting chance at a career! As if that is not enough joy in my life, I’ve been also lucky enough to meet a new, dear friend, Glenn Garnes.   As the chain reaction effect goes, I have also become a member of The Relationship Marketing Center (RMC).  RMC has so many resources for me;  I could probably blog about these things, but another time.

Through The Relationship Marketing Center, I have learned of this Amazing new project – The Blue Marble 4Life and I am so Excited about it!  I am a long time believer in helping others, making our world a better place and giving back more than we take from this earth.  As a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, a volunteer in my community at soup kitchens and food cupboards, I try to do all for my world that I can.  

The Blue Marble 4Life project is what my life is all about.  Their mission is to spread peace and compassion.  This is such a great cause that I hope you will check out the video on their website.  In addition when you join, you become a part of the “Attitude of Gratitude”!  And – you receive a beautiful blue marble  and become connected with your world in a whole new way.  Check it out!  ~ Anita 🙂

Mom’s can succeed in the virtual world…

Check it out – An article below talks about Mom’s having the abilities to enter the business world through social media and other virtual business opportunities. 

They talk about how moms are the shoppers of the family, so they know what to buy, what the ‘right’ sales pitch is to get to your customers, and how to be able to negotiate and sell ‘vegies’ to her children, which is a marketable trait.  I totally loved this. 

As a new Virtual Assistant with TKM Virtual Services, and a mom, my oldest is 21 and youngest is 11 – with 1 in the middle, I feel that I have skills that are marketable.  Of course, for me, it helps to have had about 15 years in the Business world prior to and in the earliest days of my children.

Don’t be afraid to try again…

I found this website through my awesome Twitter connections.  I have pasted his article below and his website.  I was really moved by this as I personally feel this way.  If you fail, try again; don’t be afraid to make a mistake. 

As a Girl Scout Leader, I teach the Girls from their mistakes that they can learn how to do it the next time better.  It matters not if it is camping or planning a trip; each time you can improve.

This is also an applicable philosphy in Business and Social Media.  As a Virtual Assistant, I am learning that maybe it’s better to post something and it not ‘be perfect’ than not to try.  I have been lucky enough to have friends and collegues that have advised me and encouraged me.  Then I get better at it from learning from them.  You just have to keep trying.

I think that everyone in their life fails at something. It is what we do after we fail that determines where we will end up in life. The truth of the matter is that we have all been conditioned to view failure as a bad thing. In reality, failure is nothing but a question. The question is, “Do I want this enough to try again?” We need to embrace failure. We should view it as a gauge that lets us know if we are ready to win. I promise you that at the end of every failing streak, there arises a winner, and once you become that winner, you will never change back. If you want your goal enough, just don’t give up and it will come to you.

Ask yourself this question, “how many times am I willing to try before I give up?” If you answer this question with a number, you will never reach your goal.

Social Networking Sites

Well, for me, it is amazing when I find my daughter coming to me with a request to watch a YouTube video because it is about World Hunger.  Together we watched it – A Billion for A Billion – It was really cool to see her have information to give me on the internet.  The totally amazing part  (To Me) was that this video contained all this information about our growing social networks, you know, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, & LinkedIn, just to name a few of them.

As a new Virtual Assistant,  (or Virtual Angel, as my fairy of a boss calls me), I have immersed myself into the world of social networking.  Now, I am watching this video where I think that Hannah and I are going to see hungry children, and we do, but,  in addition they supply us with information on the fast growing social network. 

In this wonderful donation request for the World Food Programme, they also inform us – In 60 seconds,

•   83,273 Facebook friends will Log-in!  
•    2,083 Tweets will go out on Twitter

  This is an amazing concept – that many people in the world – on together , but more than that – they are on Social Networks.  LinkedIn is becoming fast the first place that Employers check to find a new staff member.  Of course, let us not leave out the MySpace, Perfect Networkers, and the list goes on and on.

What Is A Virtual Assistant?

Really – I’ve now had so many people ask me – So,  just what does a Virtual Assistant do ??

“Starting a home business sounds like a terrific idea, until you realize all that’s involved in getting it up and running. So getting some assistance really helps–especially if it doesn’t cost a lot of money.” – Washington Post

Yes, there is all that pesky paperwork that is involved in being a business owner, but being a Virtual Assistant (VA) is more than virtual paperwork.  As I have begun to learn,  from one whom I consider to be the very best at this VA stuff, Kim Wesley, of TKM Virtual Services, being a VA is so much More. 

Ok, so maybe I am making a huge leap here as I’m very new and in training ,  But,  if I may,  from all the many articles I’ve read, my own experience, my social media accounts, from books and from many VAs blogs, here is what I think a VA does. 

A VA helps clients to handle their social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and their emails.  A VA also can help to establish, maintain and give reports on your business clients; creating a database from business contacts and social networking events.  A good VA will then use these to continue your online presence for your company.

Love for The Go-Giver book

This book, The Go-Giver,  by Bob Burg and John David Mann, has really touched my life in places I wasn’t expecting.

You have to check it out at the library; download the audio version that you can just listen to as you do other things;  or just buy it.  This book is more than a tool for business professionals.

It is a way of life.  The 2nd day I was reading it, my wonderful husband and I seemed to have hit what I call a ‘rough patch in the road of marriage’.  We weren’t talking – I remember thinking “Why can’t he understand Me”  — Ah, well another chapter or 2 in this book  and I realized My focus was in the wrong place.  Instead I began to think – Why am I not thinking about how He feels.  This is the man I’ve loved for 16 years;  where am I at – lost.

This book is so about business too.  The idea that the more you help your coworkers, fellow business folks and such; the more that you help yourself.  This is an amazing idea.  I think it’s also called social networking 🙂

Yes, helping others is what I believe in – to an extreme level.  I think that we all feel that there is that thing you can do to serve this world; help others; or leave a lasting mark on those around you – how do we do that ?  By giving of ourselves – another key element The Go-Giver is discussing.

This book is such an easy and great read that I have done it twice now.  You have to check this little book out ASAP,  folks. ~ Anita

Virtual Assistant in Training

Well here it is – my Day 1 blog on WordPress. I guess we all start somewhere – Reminds me of my favorite quote from Martin Luther King – You can take one step at a time, not necessarily the whole staircase – baby steps,  I like that 🙂 This will be for my virtual assistant stuff that I’m learning day by day.  After about a month of long hours

• sitting in this chair
• reading
• pouring over information
• checking out 5 websites at one time – I really just have to say

Thanks Kim! I have learned a great deal in a very short time thanks to a great teacher. WE all need that – someone who will help you, teach you, listen to you and it helps when she is the miracle worker of the internet. For years I had realized that if you want to know how to do something online or find some info – just ask Kim Wesley.  Naturally she is now the owner of TKM Virtual Services.
Now here I am with a Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts.   Although I’ve used the computer for years, I will admit that I am new to all the tools of social media, networking and forums.  Yet with direction, dedication and great teaching, I am feeling more confident every day now.

A few things I’ve learned already are how to use other sites to help you along (I’m loving & bet a few others are:  http://www.socialoomph.com).
I guess the connections that happened immediately to people I know; but also those I do not,  are Amazing me too!
